Skillets

I was watching part of the closing argument by the prosecution in the George Zimmerman trial and I was struck by how weak the case seemed to be that the prosecutor was making. It seemed to revolve predominantly around the emotional facts of Martin’s age, the snacks he had and his hoodie.

Unfortunately this case has become a racial rallying cry for many due to an overemphasis on incidental, yet legally irrelevant details. Stuff like Martin having just bought skittles. Or, as Al Sharpton called them, skillets.

In a way, Sharpton was symbolically representing for us all the level of competence and objectivity he and many others would bring to the discussion.
